KUALA LUMPUR - A man slapped Imam of the National Mosque during Friday prayers today because there are voices that want him to lead prayers.
This was disclosed by the Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Zainol Samah told Bernama.
He said the incident happened at about 1.30pm during the first cycles of prayer which was led by Mohd Zuhairee Mohd orphans, 39.
Male Indian national aged 31, came from behind when the priest was reciting surah al-Fatihah, said Corporation.
It is understood that the man tried to grab the microphone located on the robes worn Mohd Zuhairee but failed to cause anger and take action
The priest slapped suddenly.
The management of the mosque then took the man out immediately and hand it over to the police.
Zainol said the man was arrested and is being investigated under Section 323/506 of the Penal Code.
"The preliminary investigation revealed that the man was believed to have mental problems and often talks to himself," he said.
Zainol said the priest slapped on the right cheek and had caused the victim to suffer headaches due to the impact of the blow.
The incident occurred for about three minutes before Mohd Zuhairee again led the Friday prayer congregation and asked all to pray again.
Bilal Mohamed Shukri Che duty Yusoh, 23, said he did not think the incident can occur.
"Before this never happened something like this here (Masjid Negara), I was quite surprised and grateful the situation under control," he said.
