The Dangers of Dengue Virus Update



KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia is now facing the threat of a new type of epidemic that is more dangerous when it can damage the brain and liver of patients thus resulting in many deaths in a short time.

Dengue virus from the bite of Aedes mosquitoes, resulting in swelling of the brain or the outer layer of the brain tissue. Patients will suffer from fatigue, coma, headaches and paralysis.

Health Minister Datuk Seri S. Subramaniam said the outbreak was now seen as the country's number one killer disease symptoms has changed compared to before. Symptoms of dengue previously only showed bleeding and spots on the skin of the patient.

He said as many as 54 cases of dengue-related deaths were reported within the first 52 days in 2015 compared to 25 cases in the same period last year.

That amount represents an increase of 116 percent.

"Dengue is currently stronger and heavier. It is now the number one killer like and deemed as the most dangerous epidemic ever faced Malaysia because it can damage the brain and heart, "he said at a press conference here yesterday.
