Hina monarchy, comedian jailed 2 years


Life would be more secure if we comply with the law. If not, the army will overtake one day: -

BANGKOK: Thai court sentenced a comedian who also hardcore supporters' Red Shirts' to two years' imprisonment on Thursday for insulting the monarchy in a speech at a rally in 2010, said his lawyer.

Yosawaris Chuklom, 54, who uses the stage name Dokchik mistress, was found guilty under other lawful Thai lese-majeste, which can punish anyone found guilty of insulting the king, queen or heir of up to 15 years in prison.

The comedian, who is also facing separate charges of terrorism for his role in the Red Shirt protest here in 2010, which saw the loss of many lives, to apply for bail while appealing the decision, said his lawyer, Thamrong Lakdaen.

"At first he was sentenced to three years in prison but the judge reduced the sentence to two years due to evidence he gave," he said.
