The Edge reasonable suspension only after the investigation is completed - Akhbar Satar

KUALA LUMPUR: The Edge Suspension Weekly and The Edge Financial Daily supposed to be made after the investigation of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) is completed.

Transparency International - Malaysia (TI-M) president Datuk Akhbar Satar in a statement said that action would be considered strong if there are reasonable grounds at the end of the investigation.

"In recent years, a number of allegations and accusations from all sides. Therefore, why hang The Edge?" Akhbar said.

He added that the TI-M feels Ministry (KDN) should impose legal actions that parties can defend themselves in court.

"Suspending a newspaper for reporting 1MDB scandal will not help the government directly. In fact, the impact on Malaysia is negative international perception of media freedom," said Press.

He also touched on the website Sarawak Report blocked where it gives the impression the Government has turned a promise not to censor the Internet.

"All these measures will result in a loss of confidence in the country and a negative impact on the currency.

"Our government should not be" over-over 'in inhibiting freedom of speech on the basis of acting on critics, "he explains.
