Jeep burn victim's family can be compensated $ 150 million

* Model vehicle referred to in this article is not so relevant for the Malaysian market but it is good to remind all about the attitude to take for granted some of the less concerned about safety. As buyers, we are also supposed to provide themselves with knowledge about security issues.

The judges of a court in Georgia (United States) recently Chrysler has ordered that the company pay up to $ 150 million to the family of Remington Walden. This is compensation and reparations to families of children aged 4-year-old who died after a pickup crashed into the rear of the Jeep Cherokee that was traveling in 2012. The Jeep (which is also known as the Jeep Liberty) then burning and killing the child.

This incident occurred in March 2012 as a result of how the Jeep was built - its fuel tank is located behind the rear axle, making it vulnerable to the risk of damage if a breach occurs.

Actually Chrysler company - which owns the brand Jeep - already ordered by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) to do a 'recall' is full for this model for federal records also show that at least 75 people had died because of the risks inherent in the position of the rear tank Here you are.

But, Chrysler has managed to convince NHTSA that only 1.56 million Jeep only get called back to the structural problems of fuel tank protection, compared to 2.7 million units were required at first.

Solution were added hanger trailer (trailer hitch) on the rear bumper Jeep involved. (The document below shows the letters 'recall' produced Chrysler). Party NHTSA has conducted tests to use 'trailer hitch' and found it effective; but testing is not performed at speeds exceeding 43bsj / 69.2km / h.

Now NHTSA is likely to reopen the original investigation in respect of paper burning Jeep after a collision from behind. In addition, NHTSA also less satisfied because the rate of installation of trailer hitch 'is very slow; only 25% of the 1.56 million who were involved have been checked and corrected, as necessary.

Chrysler has announced that they will appeal the decision of the court and the jury.
