KUALA LUMPUR: The representatives of the people from the government and the opposition today supports the proposed improvements of Parliament as expressed by the Speaker, Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia (picture) yesterday.
Chairman of BN Supporters Club (BNBBC) Tan Sri Shahrir Samad said the reform of Parliament should be held to restore the House of Representatives and the Senate in the proper place.
According to him, there should be a line that distinguishes between the executive and the parliament.
"The abolition of the Parliamentary Service Act in 1992 resulted in ambiguity between the legislature and the executive," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby yesterday.
According to Shahrir, will lead to the repeal of the Act of Parliament similar to government departments.
He also suggested that a working committee to study the proposal Pandikar ditubuhkn it.
He said a committee made up of legal practitioners, former MP and former minister was able to restore the independence and accountability of the institution.
Meanwhile, the Pakatan Rakyat Pandikar welcome the fact that Parliament did not want to be seen as a 'rubber stamp' functioning under the thumb of the executive.
In a separate press conference, opposition chief Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail also announced the establishment of the People's Alliance Parliamentary Committee Improvements.
"So we Pakatan Rakyat led by Opposition Leader and Chief Whip staffed and a member of parliament representing each party.
"Even a Committee of the 11th Malaysia Plan Pakatan Rakyat has also been agreed is established," he said.
Add Wan Azizah, the establishment of two committees were expected to make legislative task Pakatan Rakyat MPs more effective and accountable.
All the chief Whip PR, Datuk Johari Abdul (PKR), Anthony Loke Siew Fook (DAP) and Datuk Mahfuz Omar (PAS) also expressed support for the proposal Pandikar.
Pandikar on Monday had admitted his intention to resign after it was revealed former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
