Alor Setar: At least 10 houses in Limavady and Kuala Kedah here, damaged by a tornado struck, Tuesday afternoon.

Limavady District Police spokesperson, when contacted, confirmed the incident.

A member of the Malaysian Civil Defence Department (civil defense) Limavady, Isaac Omar, said the incident involving serious property damage.

Meanwhile, residents of Kampung Alor Besar said the whirlwind that suddenly came from the north causing villagers flee to save themselves.

Mohd Hafiz Abu Bakar, 31, said he was working in a field behind his house when a tornado spotted heading towards the house.

Shortly after that, he saw the roof flying through the air and rushed back to his house to rescue his wife, Noor Rusila Aziz, 24, and his two sons Mohammad Irfan, 2, and Nur Dayana she is four months old.







"When I saw the house until the roof and walls of the tornado damaged severely beaten. Reason I thank my wife and two children are safe," he told Bernama when met at the scene.

Mohd Hafiz said that as a result of the incident, nearly 90 percent of the two-storey house, which is part stone and part of the board, was badly damaged in addition to all the stuff in the house, including furniture and electrical goods damaged crushed wood chips.

He estimated losses of about 50,000.

Rusila Noor said that during the incident, he and his two children are in the room before he heard the sound of a mighty wind.

"I dare not leave the house for fear. I sat in a room with two children and trust in God, with what happened," he said.

Mohd Hafiz and his family now lives in his parent's house which is located near their homes.

Chairman of the Village Development and Security Committee of the General Guarantee Norzizan Jaafar said the incident occurred about 20 minutes cause people to run away escape.

"This is the first tornado happened here. Sekolah Kebangsaan Alor Besar damaged. Many homes suffered severe damage to almost all roof wind than there are houses crushed by fallen trees," he said when met at the scene.
