KUALA LUMPUR: The Foreign Ministry confirmed that all Malaysians residing in the earthquake that has hit Nepal and Northern India region are in a safe condition.

In a statement the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, initial reports had been received from the Malaysian Embassy in Katmandu and the Malaysian High Commission in New Delhi who have contacted Malaysians registered and everything is safe.

"The Malaysian Embassy in Katmandu also reported there is still a small vibration-vibration persists in some parts of Katmandu.

"Despite the avalanche, a team climbing Everest Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), which are at Everest Base Camp also reported to be safe," the statement said.

Said the statement, the Foreign Ministry and the Malaysian Embassy in Katmandu also urged Malaysians residing in Katmandu and regions involved to remain calm.

"Everything should be in place to ensure a safe and fully cooperate with the authorities and follow directions Nepal.

"It's because of telecommunication services and other services are fully mobilized to assist in the rescue operation is underway," said the statement.

Previously, the Foreign Ministry Secretary General Datuk Othman Hashim told the Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu is seeking confirmation from the local authorities in Nepal whether there are Malaysians involved in the earthquake that devastated the country.

He said the embassy would try to check all hospitals, clinics and shelters other information with the relevant authorities to ensure that if there are Malaysian citizens who become victims.
