PRESIDENT World Football Federation (FIFA), Sepp Blatter announced his resignation after four days of election to lead the world football governing body's.

Blatter, 79, announced his resignation at a press conference held in Zurich, six days after the FBI raided and searched hotels in Zurich and arrested several Fifa officials.

He was in office as the President of FIFA for 17 years, said the new Fifa presidential election be held as soon as possible.

"I intend to deliver on the mandate of the Special Electoral Congress and will continue to serve as president until election day," he was quoted by AFP.

Blatter added that FIFA requires a thorough restructuring and he has made it deep consideration regarding his re-election ever since.

"Despite receiving a new mandate, but it does not reflect the support of all parties," he said.
